Magglio Ordonez has been reduced to the righty swinging portion of a platoon with Clete Thomas. That’s because he has not hit the ball this season. Ordonez has played in 76 games for the Tigers this season and he is 72 for 280 (.257 avg, .682 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 5 homers, 32 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. This has been a stunning decline at the plate for Ordonez who has played in 1,617 games in his major league career sporting a .310 career batting average (.881 OPS). 2009 will definately be Ordonez’ last in a Tigers’ uniform so get his autograph now if you want it.

The Detroit Tigers designate Josh Anderson for assignment

The Tigers have designated outfielder Josh Anderson for assignment. Anderson played in 74 games this season for the Tigers in which he was 40 for 165 (.242 avg, .597 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 0 homers, 16 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. He has now played in 135 games in his major league career and he is 104 for 368 (.283 avg, .700 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 3 homers, 39 RBIs and 24 stolen bases. The Tigers should be able to trade Anderson as he won’t likely accept a demotion becoming a free agent and the team doesn’t want that.

UPDATE: The Tigers have traded Josh Anderson to the Kansas City Royals for some cold, hard cash.
