The Tigers have acquired 27 year old lefty swinging outfielder Jason Perry from the A’s in return for 27 year old 1B Jack Hannahan.  Perry has played in 99 games this season in AA+AAA ball and he is 96 for 362 (.265 avg, .897 OPS) with 74 runs scored, 23 homers and 75 RBIs.  He may get a chance to get a handful of atbats in September when the rosters expand.

26 year old righty swinging Chris Shelton has been banished to AAA ball this season for some reason despite playing pretty well for the Tigers last year.  He has played in 112 games in AAA this season and he is 110 for 404 (.272 avg, .815 OPS) with 62 runs scored, 11 homers and 52 RBIs.  Shelton will likely get recalled by the Tigers when rosters expand in September or he could be traded this month to a team that could use him now.

The Tigers have placed rookie lefty Andrew Miller on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring injury.  Miller has started 11 games this season for the Tigers and he is 5-4 with a 4.42 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP.  In 59 innings this season he has allowed 61 hits, walked 33 batters and whiffed 52.  The Tigers will likely replace Miller in the rotation with Chad Durbin until he is ready to return.  The Tigers also activated reliever Fernando Rodney from the DL to replace Miller on the roster.  Rodney has pitched in 27 games this season and he is 1-5 with 1 save, a 5.40 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP.  In 28.1 innings for the Tigers this season Rodney has allowed 30 hits, walked 11 batters and whiffed 25.

Neifi Perez has been suspended for 80 games by major league baseball for a 3rd violation of using a banned stimulant.  It appears as if the drugs weren’t helping Perez one bit this season as he has been awful with the bat.  In 33 games for the Tigers this season he was 11 for 64 (.172 avg, .497 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 RBIs.  This could wind up costing Perez his major league career.
