The Tigers went 3-3 last week despite getting outscored 35-33.  The Tigers need their pitching to get back on the right track if they want to get back to the level they were playing at last season.  The Tigers are now 13-11 which is good for 3rd place in the American League Central, 2 games behind the Cleveland Indians.

Magglio Ordonez mauling the baseball for the Detroit Tigers

Magglio Ordonez is off to a good start to the 2007 season.  In 20 games this season, he’s 26 of 78 (.333 avg, .988 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 3 homers and 20 RBIs.  The Tigers are lucky that Ordonez is swinging a hit stick because a lot of the Tigers hitters are in slumps right now.  Look for teams to pitch around Ordonez until some of the other players on the Tigers start to hit the baseball.

Sean Casey off to a rough start this season for the Detroit Tigers

Sean Casey has played in 19 games so far this season and he’s only 11 for 64 (.175 avg, .457 OPS) with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.  If he doesn’t get it going soon for the Tigers they may have to either play Marcus Thames more at firstbase or call up Chris Shelton.  Hopefully Casey will just start hitting because he’s a much better defender than either Shelton or Thames would be at first base.

The Tigers went 3-3 last week as they outscored their opponents 37-32.  It appears as though their offense is finally starting to wake up.  The Tigers are now in 2nd place in the American League Central, 1 game behind the Minnesota Twins.

The Detroit Tigers place Jose Mesa on the DL

Blogged under Front Page, Injuries, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 23 April 2007 at 11:08 am

The Tigers have placed Joe Mesa on the 15-day disabled list with a pulled right groin.  He has pitched awful so far this season as he is 0-1 with a 20.25 ERA so far this season.  In 2.2 innings so far this season, he’s allowed 7 hits, 6 earned runs and whiffed 4 batters.  The Tigers called up reliever Aquilino Lopez to replace him.  Lopez has good stuff and he’s looking to rejuvenate his major league career.  He has pitched in 2 games for the Tigers this season and he’s thrown 3 innings and allowed 3 hits, 2 earned runs and he’s whiffed 2 batters.
